Xalair Rena
Master of Astromancy
Timeline:
Xalair’s story takes place before the restoration of Ishgard. Whilst the war between The Holy See and Heretics was still raging on to present day.
Once upon a time...
As Llymlaen kindness allowed, the third astral moon, graced on the 26th, was deemed as an unique occasion, Mistress Rena was born into the world of Eorzea as her master would begin the story of her past or what he thought her past to be. The stars only revealed the date of her birth, the rest of her past remained unknown. At that time Xalair was a newly founded Stargazer, with the grace and mercy of Astrologians taking her under their wings. Unfortunately, the situation caused quite a scene. Finding a young Viera in Ishgard was rare, let alone a Rava. Everyone knows that a Rava is forbidden to be amongst any other outside their own race, twas the way of life...of order. The Astrologians were the only ones, kind enough to take her in. Others had feared what this possible omen meant for Ishgard, seeing that the Ishgardians had their own plight of an unfortunate history of sorrow, riddled with numerous deaths of both Dravanians and Ishgardians. All that both groups held precious..dear to them was lost. Therefore, Ishgardian traditions must be upheld, never to be diluted by the allowance of outsiders. Young or not, Xalair was to be turned away from the Ishgardian protective “Gate of Judgement” and “Steps of Faith”, left out in the wilderness of the relentless cold and snow capped lands, alone to find another place to call home. She was never a daughter of Ishgard anyway, so her personal plight was not their concern. With the Astrologians’ basic need for knowledge, they took her in, training her in their ways, teaching her their traditions, hoping to learn how she got to Ishgard from the forest; Gridania, but she had not known that information. Instead of informing her and assisting her in getting home to the forest, she was to serve as research, seeing that knowledge about Rava’s is non-existent to outsiders. Furthermore, as the years went by, Mistress Rena exceeded her master, in mastering her gift of foresight. Intrigued by this fascinating discovery, seeing that mastering foresight requires a newcomer to have the soul of an Astrologian, implanted at the base of their skull. Nonetheless this too was granted her, which also changed her. She was possessed by this thirst for more, turned into cravings and her whimsical desire to learn of her past, turned into aches for more….more...more. The mystery of how she got to Ishgard, still rang in everyone’s mind for many years, even in her own, as the differences between who she was became more apparent. The globes themselves clung to her, as if their existence needed only to do her bidding at all times. As she was groomed to thirst and covet knowledge, by using the wisdom of the heavens, her curiosity got the best of her, making her tamper with her gift of foresight. Her wish was to use its power to look back, and perhaps beyond her past, for the answers she sought. Xalair persuaded her dearest and only friend, Mioné to participate in this gross abusive act of misusing foresight, wishing to share with her beloved friend all the things she learned..that she felt she had accomplished in the name of her innocent desire, she thought. At that time, Xalair focused all her energy on this one act...At that time having the one person that meant so much to her by her side was everything in that moment…..at that time as they both gaze to the sky that opened up to them like a door with such vivid colors, yet strange beings..figures that did not make sense, their faces unseen and their words not understood….at that time she wasn’t deemed a monster, but an highly esteemed Astrologian who others from all around Eorzea sought answers and understanding from;her knowledge and understandings of the deep workings of the globe and the use of it, not like anything they had ever seen before….at that time Mioné….was with her..at that time she was whole in a sense, both literally and figuratively..For Xalair’s disobedience and lack of adherence to the laws that govern the use of foresight, that was put in place by the Sharlayan people, she was punished to the highest degree, paying the highest price for what she had done. Thus was born the Law of Astromancy. Protected by the watchful eye of the deity of the Sharlayan people; Thaliak the Scholar.
